Frequently Asked Questions

groom holds bride on the beach at Barcelo Maya Palace MexicoI have put together some of the most frequently asked questions about my wedding photography. If you don’t see your answer here, send me a message!

Do you travel for weddings?

Yes! I love to travel both in the US and abroad to shoot weddings. I have a separate website that features some of my destination weddings called Artistique Destinations. Travel fees are quoted on a per location basis but I keep them reasonable as I love to do it!

How far in advance should we book our wedding with you?

I recommend booking as soon as you know that you would like me as your photographer! Top summer dates book up fast, and the first couple to reserve me gets the date. Weekday and Sunday weddings tend to not book as quickly so you have a little more time with those.

How do we book you for our wedding?

In order to secure the date, you will fill out the wedding contract and pay your reservation fee. The reservation fee goes towards your package, but you do not need to decide on your exact package at the time of booking. The contract can be done in person or via email. Payments can be made in person or over the phone. I accept cash, checks, all major credit cards including American Express, and Paypal. If you pay your reservation fee with cash or a check, you receive a $50 gallery credit. If you pay your final balance in cash or check, you receive an additional $100 gallery credit. Gallery credits can be used to purchase prints, parent albums, wall portraits, etc.

When is our final balance due?

Your final balance is due 45 days prior to your wedding. At this time we either get together or have a phone or Skype consult to go over the final details of your wedding. Details include timeline, family photos, and any other special shots that you would like.

Do we need to provide you with a shot list?

A shot list is not necessary. I have shot hundreds of weddings and will be sure to capture all of key moments. We will go over your family’s names and any special situations at our consult before the wedding. Special situations include any unique family relationships, divorces, etc. If certain family members will only be there for a certain length of time, we go over those too, to make sure we capture all the special people. If you would like any other group photos, for instance all your college friends at the reception, I will make notes of them as well. You can also feel free to email me any time with your “special shots”.

What if our parents or guests have special requests?

No problem at all! If you know ahead of time, you can pass that info along to me. During the wedding day, parents and guests can always request special group shots. However, I will not take those shots over capturing what the two of you have requested. What the bride and groom want ALWAYS comes first.

Can we share our Pinterest boards and ideas with you?

Of course! Pinterest is a great source of inspiration and helps me to understand the style that you love. I always tell my couples, though, that its best to use them as ideas, and not try to have a long list of “must duplicate” images. That tends to take away from the uniqueness and spontaneity of the day. You want others to be pinning YOUR unique wedding photos!

What kind of gear will you bring on the wedding day?

I am a Nikon pro shooter, and have many zoom and prime lenses that I use for different looks during the day. I always have backup gear too and more memory cards than we could ever possibly use. I also bring off camera flash with radio slaves that I use both outside and inside. I also sometimes bring a video light or hot light depending on the location which gives another cool option for night shots.

How soon after the wedding will we get to see our wedding photos?

I will blog some of my favorites the week after the wedding, which you can pin and share on Facebook. Your final images and flash drive are usually ready six weeks or less from your wedding date. Sometimes that can run a little longer in prime season (July-Sept) as I will never rush through processing your wedding just because I have been shooting a lot.

My package says I will receive a flash drive with high resolution digital files. What does that mean exactly?

The high resolution digital files are the same size files that I use to print from. You can print up to 40″x60″ prints from these files. I hand color correct and crop each image and do some facial retouching work as necessary to the “formal” photos of the two of you, your wedding party and family photos. You will also receive a personal reproduction release, which means you can print unlimited images from your files as well as posting them on social media and your personal wedding website.

How many digital files can I expect to receive?

You can expect to receive 500-900 files depending on how many hours we are there and how full your day is. Generally, for each hour we are there you will receive 80-100 digital images, so on an 8 hour coverage you will receive approximately 650-800 digital files.

How can I share my wedding photos with friends and family?

Once you have your wedding files, I will post a gallery online and send you a link that you can send out. The gallery will be up for one year and includes a shopping cart so friends and family can order prints or their own copy of a digital file from the wedding.

My package came with an album. How do we order that?

I will have created an initial album design in a pdf format which will also be on your flash drive. I will give you instructions on how to send me the changes you would like made once you have looked it over. You get two full sets of design changes for your album. You will also need to choose your cover, which can be done via email or can be done when you are picking up your files. Once you have finalized everything, I will get your album ordered. Depending on the type of album and time of year, it takes 4-10 weeks to receive your album. Final approval must be given by October 15th to guarantee Christmas delivery on all albums except for the Artbook. The Artbook final approval must be in by November 15th.
